These photos are from the central part of Sri Lanka, a rolling expanse of hills, lush green tea plantations, and chaotic small towns. My drive took me from Anuradhapura in the north through Kandy back to Colombo.
The central plateau. |
Waiting for the bus. |
Lots of rushing streams here. |
Vast tea plantations cover much of the central highlands in Sri Lanka. |
These ladies pick tea for a living. |
40km from something (I can't recall what!). |
One of these around almost every bend. |
No sign of ethnic conflict here. |
Vegetables near Nuwara Eliya, the highest town in Sri Lanka (alt 1900m). |
An old fashioned one room school house in Nuwara Eliya. |
Some of the students wanted me to take their picture. |
More tea plantations. |
This is just south of Nuwara Eliya. |
Mobbed by another gang of students who want their picture taken! |

Another rushing stream to pause and relax by. |
As the elevation drops, the scenery again becomes more tropical. |
Near Ratnapura, the climate is hot and humid enough for plantations of rubber trees. |
